Nawaz Rather, the wicket-keeper batsman, this Thursday became the first cricketer from district Poonch and Rajouri to play for J&K senior cricket team.
Having played seven DYSS nationals, it took seven hard years for Nawaz jn breaking in the J&K senior side. Nawaz debuted against Manipur in the last match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for J&K.
Although he didn’t get to bat, Nawaz showed glimpses of his wicket-keeping skills. Meanwhile, Rather has read and memorized Quran apart from making it big in cricket.
He has been a KC Sports Club trainee and been in the watchful eyes of some senior players of district’s famous cricket club, namely, Poonch XI. In his thanks giving message, he mentioned the name of his uncle, Mr Azam Rather and Parveez Afridi, Imran Mir Goldy, Zaffar Shah, Pawan Kumar.
