Asrar becomes first Kashmir car racer to qualify for Volkswagen Ameo Cup

LocalAsrar becomes first Kashmir car racer to qualify for Volkswagen Ameo Cup

Asrar Ahmed Wani has become the first Kashmir motor sport driver to qualify for the Volkswagen Ameo Cup, a national motorsport event.

In a quest to achieve his dream of representing his State in national motorsport circuit, Asrar raced against more than 100 participants from all across India at the recently held Volkswagen Ameo Cup in Pune, Maharashtra. Asrar was able to finish among the top 15 drivers thus became the first driver from Kashmir to participate and get selected for a national motorsport event.

This year Volkswagen Motorsport enters its 10th year with Ameo cup. As part of the championship 20 drivers will compete for the top honors while being coached throughout the season. The race program comprises of four race weekends at the three race tracks across India- Coimbatore, Chennai and Delhi. The winner of the championship is given an opportunity to show case his or her talent in a higher level formula series in India, and internationally through driver exchange program, a handout issued by Kashmir Off Road said.

Ameo Cup-2019 as part of the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship would be held at MMRT in Chennai, Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and India’s only F1 racetrack, Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

Thrilled with his qualification, Asrar said that he is looking forward for the event. “I am thrilled and extremely excited. Though I am an ardent off-roader and have participated in motor-sport events but this was my first ever outside Kashmir feat on the national level. I love driving cars and this was an opportunity for me to showcase my talent on a national platform”.

However for Asrar the dream of participating in the event and be part of one of the top motor sport event in India may not turn into reality in absence of any sponsor.

“I am looking for sponsors to be able to pursue my passion and participate in the national championships. Hailing from a middle-class background, my family has been supporting me in pursuing motor-sport as a profession. However, the dream of becoming a professional racer is full of hurdles and I am currently looking for sponsors in tune of Rs 10 lakhs to be able to compete in the races,” he said.

It is not just that he will be the only one to benefit from the sponsorship but the sponsor who will come forward to help Asrar will also benefit from an extensive national and international press and media coverage and advertising plus race car branding and other exciting incentives as part of sponsorship.

Kashmir Off Road that has been supporting and providing platform to showcase his talent is also doing its bit to help Asrar in realizing his dream. Kashmir Off Road is Kashmir’s first and only off-road, adventure and motor-sport platform.
