Former Pakistan cricket team skipper has said that Pakistan’s current batting mainstay Babar Azam, has got the potential to turn into a big player like Virat Kohli in future.
There have been comparison between the two batsman since the emergence of Azam into the scene but both at times have shrugged aside the comparison. Babar Azam even recently himself said that he watches videos of Kohli to learn from the Indian great.
Statically Virat Kohli is well ahead of Babar Azam in terms of his batting and runs scored in each format. In the current edeition of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Azam has made scores of 22, 63, 30 and 48, while as Kohli has scored 18, 82 and 77.
However Afridi is confident that the 24-year-old can become as good as the Indian skipper.
“It is my hope that Babar Azam will become a bigger player like Virat Kohli. But he won’t become that player if he plays 50-60 balls, scores 50-60 runs but doesnt help Pakistan win the game,” Afridi was quoted by PakPassion.com.
“At this point you have only one player who is playing with consistency and that is Babar Azam,” he said.
“He needs to play long innings, you have the example of Indian players whenever they score runs, they play long innings,” Afridi added.
