In the conference organized by J&K chapter of, Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP), celebrity physiotherapist like Dr Ali Irani, former cricketer Surinder Khanna, former International swimmer Meenakshi Pahuja, President IAP Dr Sanjiv Jha, President JKSPA Dr Suhail Mir and SP School Principal Reyaz Ahmad Siddiqui.

The speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of physiotherapy in sports and also highlighted the importance of physical activity in shape of exercise in a daily life of person.

Dr Ali Irani, who is International figure in sports Physiotherapy and has been associated with Indian Cricket team for number of years, said that these type of interactive session with students is good thing and more such programs should be held.

“There is lot of misconception about physiotherapy in sports. Most of the people consider it as rehabilitation process for the injured players. It is not like that; it is field that helps improve player’s performance and it also sets guidelines for the daily physical activity of a common person,” Dr Irani said.

Dr Irani was impressed with the response of students and hoped that he gets more opportunities to work with the local youth in Kashmir.

On the occasion Dr Suhail, President, JKSPA said that the idea behind holding such conferences is to make youth aware about the benefits of physical activity.

“Exercise is cheapest, safest and effective medicine and those who don’t have time for it will have to find time for illness and hospitals. This was our main topic and it is where physiotherapist comes in as they teach you how to keep yourself healthy and free from injuries,” Dr Suhail said.
