FC Bayern Youth Cup to be held at DPS Srinagar

LocalFC Bayern Youth Cup to be held at DPS Srinagar

The Srinagar leg of sixth edition of the FC Bayern Youth Cup, an under-16 seven-a-side global inter-school football tournament, is set to kickstart from Jan 11, 2019 in the grounds of Delhi Public School Srinagar.

The Srinagar leg is being jointly organised by Delhi Public School, Srinagar, Adidas and Real Kashmir football club. 16 teams will compete against each other over four days to reach the next round at Delhi.

Prominent schools of the valley including the host school, Burn Hall, Tyndale Biscoe, JK Public and Kashmir Harvard are in the fray.

The tournament is a first of its kind to be held in the state, and represents a unique opportunity for the local talent to stake its claim at the international level.

Alongside the recently concluded first of its kind night football tournament – Chinar Cup, this tournament marks the sincere efforts of DPS Srinagar to boost local talent.

Commenting on this, Chairman DPS Srinagar Vijay Dhar said “Our doors are always open to any collaboration that aims at making the valley a better place for youth. It is this mantra that determines every effort of ours – be it academics or any other field. It gives me such joy to see that once again we are at the forefront of a small but significant event that will make history.”

The tournament will eventually conclude with the finals in February 2019 at Adidas, The Base in New Delhi after finalists from each leg have squared off against each other. The national winner will be flown by Qatar airways – the travel partner to Munich.

The winning team will represent ‘Team India’ in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals and get to train under the professionals, in Munich in May 2019. The selected players also get a chance to watch the season’s last Bundesliga match at the iconic Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich, Germany
