HC directs rescheduling of J&K-Goa match

LocalHC directs rescheduling of J&K-Goa match

Jammu and Kashmir High court Tuesday directed that the match between J&K and Goa be rescheduled between October 15 and October 25 and the tournament be held accordingly.
The court passed the directions after it modified the order passed on October 8, 2017 by single bench for staying the under-23 selection list of cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir and directed J&K cricket squad to play in the CK Naidu tournament.u23
The single bench of high court had stayed the list after petitioner Hashim Saleem had alleged that chief selector JKCA had selected his own son and few other players based on recommendations.
The court directed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to carry on with the CK Naidu cricket Tournament and also the squad selected for J&K U-23 is permitted to play in the tournament.
The court observed that they have passed this order based on the fact that affidavit presented by petitioner has misled court by entertaining wrong information.
“We came to know the fact that chief selector for the under-23 has not selected his son in the list and by no means has it been proved in court that the selection list was based on recommendations.”
Advocate Sethi who was representing BCCI said, “It is absolutely false that the chief selector had any relationship with any person, the selection was purely based on merit. And the information submitted by petitioner is based on personal merits and this has amounted cancellation of match which was going between J&K state and Goa as we received orders from court to stop the match.”
The team was on Sunday in the middle of the match with Goa batting on 43 for the loss of one wicket when BCCI officials stopped the play. Only 13 overs were bowled when the match was stopped.
“Umpires stopped the play on the intervention of the match referee and we were told nothing about the reasons. Players stayed in the middle for almost one hour and after that they were called up in dressing room and then to their hotel rooms,” said official of the team.
Hearing the petition, the division headed by chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Alok Aradhe remarked that how unfortunate is this that a match being played by J&K and Goa team was in midway stopped and this is due to wrong information submitted to court that some persons have been selected through recommendations which has not been proved in the court.
Justice Durrez said, “Jammu and Kashmir is going through turmoil and to see our youth excelling in sports activities, we have to give them a chance to pursue their aspirations and dreams.”
The petitioner counsel Peerzada Soliha was told by court to verify the facts and submit it before court when you have concrete evidence to support your arguments.
“In this case, we see nothing but false information given which is totally unacceptable and can lead to petitioner to jail,” the court said.
The petitioner Hashim Saleem had submitted before court that Secretary to Government, Youth Service Sports Department and Secretary J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) Iqbal Shah have violated the court orders of October 4, 2017 and also had levelled allegations that Chief selector had selected his own son in the list besides players from Kashmir Gymkhana and other cricket associations.
