JKCA for one more time undo’s the Lodha Committee recommendations by picking ineligible selectors for Under-19 selection trials, making the shortlist, trial process invalid.
The two-member selection committee comprising of Sheikh Sajad and Fayaz Hazare on Wednesday firstly announced a 61-member shortlist and later held matches among them. While currently, matches between Jammu and Kashmir provinces are on.
Soon after the shortlist was made public, it faced a lot of criticism as players claimed that a number of deserving candidates have been left out of the list. They also questioned the genuineness of the list, with around 45 players from Srinagar while less than 5 from North Kashmir featuring the list.
The Duo comes to be ineligible for the post of selectors according to the Lodha Committee reforms which state, “The member’s of the Men’s Selection Committee should have played a minimum of seven Test matches, or thirty First Class matches, Ten One Day International matches, and twenty First Class matches. Besides, every member of the Selection Committees should have retired from the game at least 5 years before.”
Sheikh Sajad has played 16 while as Fayaz Hazare 13 First-class matches, which proves both the selectors are no way near to these numbers.
That sums the probable list, selection process is invalid/illegal in the eyes of BCCI as the pair doesn’t qualify the mandatory criteria as set up in rule 26(A) of Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations under Lodha Recommendations approved by the Supreme Court of India.
A former cricketer while talking to KSW termed this as a huge blunder by JKCA,
“If JKCA persisted with the list, it would mean denying BCCI, which in a way makes the whole activities of JKCA illegal. It’s a big blunder from their side. BCCI should come to the rescue, JKCA can’t openly reject the Lodha Recommendations,” he said.
Meanwhile, JKCA started the trial matches among Jammu and Kashmir divsions today to select the team for upcoming Vinoo Makand Trophy.
