Again coming on to bat early in the inning after the dismissal of Martin Guptil,New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has surpassed another milestone in his career.
Kane came into middle at the score of 29 runs after Guptil got out for 19. Kane Williamson now has the most runs by a captain in single World Cup, going past Jayawardene’s 548 in 2007.
Coming into bat Kane needed one run Kane Williamson needed just one run to become the highest run-scoring captain in a single edition of the World Cup. The Kiwi superstar was tied at the top spot with legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardena with 548 runs each.
Kane Williamson has been in great form for the Black Caps and has single-handedly dragged New Zealand into the championship clash.
Williamson is the only one of the four captains to score 500+ runs in a single edition of the World Cup. Also, he needs just one more century to have joint most centuries as a captain in one edition of the showpiece event. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly currently tops the charts with three tons in 2003.
After Ross Taylor, Williamson is the only New Zealand batsman to score 500+ runs in a single edition of the tournament. Not just personal milestones but Williamson is also gunning to ends New Zealand’s World Cup drought against the much-fancied Eoin Morgan’s troops.
KaneWilliamson finally got out after scoring 30, with his World Cup tally at 578. M Jaywardene in 2007 had scored 548 while as R Ponting in 2007 had scored 539. AaronFinch in 2019 has scored 507 while as AB de Villiers in 2015 had scored 482.
