In a career- changing move, young talented footballer of Kashmir – Asrar Rehbar has signed three year contract with Bangalore United football club. Asrar is all set to join the club next week.

Asrar, reckoned highly in J&K football circles has been playing at top-level for the last three to four years. He has been part of the club that played in 2nd division I-League and has also played in Spain as part of training and development programme.

The talented Kashmir forward was scouted by Bangalore United coach Richard Hood and for next three years will be part of the Karnataka football league champion side.

“Bangalore United coach Richard Hood offered me contract for three years. I readily agreed the terms and signed for it. I will be joining the team on July 30 and now my aim is to play best football for the side,” Asrar said.

“To play at the highest level and learn from the best is my dream. This deal will make my dream come true and I am happy to join the club and prove myself among the best,” he said.

Asrar apart from playing for some top clubs of State has also represented Lone Star Kashmir FC in second division I-League and helped team to make it to final round.

“We qualified for the final round but failed to finish on top. It was good effort and I learned a lot from the experience of playing against some of the talented players. Last year I also went to Kerela to play for FC Thrissur in the Kerela League,” Asrar said.

Asrar was also one of the players who were selected during talent hunt for the Spain and he did play for one of the sides in Spain.

“I was selected for Spain and there I played for Sporting Deportiva Lenense and went on to score brace in my debut match. It was a great experience and helped me to develop as a footballer. After coming back from Spain I resumed my work with Real Kashmir. During the same season, I was selected to play in Santosh Trophy for the State,” he said.

“That was best thing and moment of my football career. Though I went to Spain and played such for a top quality side who are far superior to the sides in our State. But it was always a dream, to get selected for State team and represent State in the National football league,” he said.

About his football journey Asrar said that he started playing football when he was 12 year old with local football team in Sanat Nagar area of Srinagar.

“After joining the Sanat Nagar Club I gave trials for my school team in Burn Hall. It was start of the football and since I have played six nationals for the State at various levels. I started playing professional football with J&K Forest team and then Lone Star Kashmir FC. In 2016, I switched over to Real Kashmir and played with them in Durand Cup and also second division I-League,” he said.

Asrar was recently again with Lone Star Kashmir FC and he said that he joined club on the insistence of former International footballer Ishfaq Ahmed.

“I trained with club because Ishfaq bhai was there and he wanted me to join and train with them. I am a big fan of Ishfaq and he has been guided and mentoring me all my life. Even I wear same jersey number on back as was of Ishfaq – number 11. He is my hero and I show my respect to him by wearing same number,” Asrar added.
