Order about the event.

Although the idea of creating State Football Academy and State Cricket Academy by J&K State Sports Council was to strengthen grass root level sports structure, the institutes are more busy in conducting events.

Both the academies were launched amid fanfare with crores of rupees pumped into make them a structure that will benefit sports structure in the state. These academies came into the existence during the time of Waheed ur Rehman Parra as Secretary Sports Council.

Contrary to the idea, he went out of way to make SFA and SCA a reality. He even went on to rope in an official from J&K Bank (who is being paid by Council) to run SFA and a lecturer from State Education department (again paid by Sports Council) to run SCA. This step was questioned though Parra insisted that the two officials have ample experience to make these two projects a success.

However, the idea of the SFA and SCA remained confined to the idea only with ground reality raising number of questions about both the academies.

The current reality is that these institutes have been reduced to organizing bodies rather than the training camps for what they were meant for.

Initially, SFA under the guidance of Mehraj ud Din Wadoo, who was inducted by Sports Council as its incharge, did a decent job. However with the passage of time, Wadoo went on to leave Academy, joining a private football franchisee club of India.

As per reports, Wadoo has signed 3 year contract as a coach with Pune City FC (Juniors), an Indian Super League-level club.
Similarly, SCA from 100’s of trainees in its Srinagar and other branches has been reduced to quite a smaller number.

Although the coaches of academy are training these platry number of trainees, the Director is seen busy in conduction of tournaments for seniors and also been a part of various committees.

In the latest such event, he has been inducted in the committee which would look after the exhibition match for inauguration of flood lights at TRC ground, Srinagar.

The proposal for the purpose as per notice was muted by SFA official and the sanction of Rs 10 lakhs in advance was granted for the same. In the same notice, committee is formed for conduct of same match in which one of the committee member is SCA Director who was meant to promote cricket at grass root level.

“The organizing of exhibition match for seniors is not the domain of the SFA and to moot proposal for conducting such activity is to hide their flaws and loopholes. Same is with the SCA Director who should never be part of football committee after all he is associated with cricket. It is mockery in the name of sports,” said a source in Sports Council.

“Crores of rupees have been pumped into both academies and the outcome has been zero. The high ranking officials enjoy their perks in the name of these academies while as junior level coaches suffer. Government should initiate enquiry into the happening of SFA and SCA and also if possible in whole affairs of Sports Council,” another source said.
