Srinagar January 27: Chattisgarh skipper Harpreet Singh scored an unbeaten century as J&K bowlers were given a hard run on day-one of round-seven Ranji Trophy game at Jammu.
Smelling the track would be treat for batsmen, Chattisgarh, without a moment’s doubt chose to bat after finding luck with the coin. However, in-form Auqib Nabi made the tourists feel a bit doubtful when he removed opener in the fourth over of the innings.
The third-wicket duo though handled the pressure well. They showed resistance until ball lost its sparkle. Later, the pitch turned even flatter, making it easy for batters. J&K did make a couple of comebacks with spinners Abid Mushtaq and Abdul Samad bagging a wicket each, however, Chattisgarh continued to dominate.
Harpreet Singh sitched a long partnership with Amandeep Khare, taking visitors to 250-run mark. J&K captain Parvez Rasool finally removed the dangerous looking Chattisgarh captain, letting hosts take a breath of relief.
Lastly, the visiting team finished at 270/4 in 90 overs with Amandeep Khare unbeaten on 45. For J&K Umar Nazir and Waseem Raza didn’t earn any breakthroughs and leaked a few while as senior campaigner Mohammed Mudhasir missed the game due to an injury.
Brief Scores: Chattisgarh 270/4 in 90 overs (Harpreet Singh 116, Abhimanyu Chauhan 51; Auqib Nabi 1/18, Parvez Rasool, Abdul Samad, Abid Mushtaq- 1 wicket each)
