Nothing went right for Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2018 as their campaign ended after an abysmal 37-run defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in their final Super Four encounter at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Sarfraz Ahmed’s men have been drawing a lot of flak on social media for their poor show in the tournament with some of the former Pakistani greats also criticising the team’s below-par show. Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar 13

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, former pacer Shoaib Akhtar and Ramiz Raza lashed out at the team after their loss against Bangladesh on Wednesday. Despite a gritty 83 from opener Imam-u-Haq, Pakistan failed to chase 239 as Mustafizur Rahman tormented the batting line-up finishing with figures of 43/4 in his ten overs.

Afridi said he was disappointed by the Pakistan team’s overall performance and termed the lack of attacking intent as the reason behind the debacle. He also added that the expectations are high from the younger side who need more focus and practice.

“Congratulations Bangladesh Disappointed by Pakistani team’s overall performance. Lacked attacking play of cricket in all fields. Its a young side who performed well in the last tournaments&set r expectations high. More focus n practice is needed4a stronger comeback,” Afridi tweeted.

Ramiz Raza was highly critical of the team and went on to say that he has not seen a more off colour Pakistani then the current one in months. He also highlighted how Sarfraz’s men repeatedly made the same mistakes in the tournament. “I have never seen a more subdued and off colour Pakistan team in months.. Mistakes more mistakes and same mistakes!! if its mistake manual had gone for printing it would have been a read of thousand pages,” Ramiz wrote on Twitter.

Akhtar too expressed his disappointment over Pakistan’s performance and warned the selectors and players to get there act together before the start of the next series. “Really disappointed to see PAK team collapsing like this. I really hope management selectors & players get their act together  b4 next series but never mind still standing with PAK team,” Akhtar wrote.

Pakistan after suffering back to back defeats against India in the group stage and Super Four respectively were knocked out by a valiant Bangladesh side who battled injuries to enter the final with a comfortable win. Mashrafe Mortaza’s men will take on unbeaten India in the final on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.
