Skiers Zara,Hashim selected for Asian Junior Championship

Srinagar: The two young skiers Zara Hashim of Bemina, Srinagar and Zamin Rashid Tantray of Baramulla from Kashmir through Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) have been selected by Ski and Snowboard India (Federation) for upcoming Asian Junior Ski Championship to be held in Iran February 24.
As per WGAJK statement Zara has been selected on the basis of securing first position in Slalom and 4th Position in Giant Slalom in the last State Winter Games organized by the Winter Games Association at Kongdori-Gulmarg in March 2019. Zamin in the event bagged first position in Slalom and second in Giant Slalom.
Both these skiers are talented and have racing capabilities. The WGAJK is more concentrating on child skiing to raise a strong team for future National and International races, association statement said.
Statement further said that in order to encourage a spirit of competition among our young skiers the association is shortly holding feedback competition like District, Regional and State Championships at Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Drass under the aegis of J&K state Sports Council.
The association is also planning to host Federation Ski and Snowboarding Cup this winter. The Federation has allotted the Championship in favor of the Association. The WGAJK has already submitted a detailed proposal to Sports Council for sponsoring this major sporting event, which is under the consideration of the Council.
Meanwhile, the Screening of state ski and snowboarding teams was held J&K State Sports Council Kashmir division on Saturday. Out of 64 athletes only 43 were present in the screening. The team shall leave for Auli-Uttrakhand in couple of days keeping in view the traffic moment on Srinagar-Jammu sector.
