Srinagar, July 17: SP Higher Secondary School lifted the Kashmir Harvard Inter-School cricket tournament title defeating Kashmir Harvard Institute in the final played at Sheri-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar here on Tuesday.sp wins harvard touyrney

The much anticipated final of the tournament that saw 16 top school teams of Valley participating in it was played on the central turf wicket of cricket stadium. Most of the students were first time playing on such a turf and it was totally new experience for them.

In the final, SP won the toss and opted to field first. The decision to put Harvard in to bat proved right as Harvard was able to score only 95 runs in allotted overs. Muntazir with three wickets was pick of the bowlers for SP School. In reply SP School didn’t found it hard to chase the target. They lost only two while chasing the target in 13 overs. Mubashir and Mateen were highest scorers for them in chase and both remained not out. Mubashir scored 33 while as Mateen scored 43.

Mubashir was awarded man of the match for his all-round performance in match while as Muntazir of SP School was adjudged as man of the series.

International star cricketer of Kashmir Parvez Rasool was chief guest on the occasion while as Incharge Corporate Communications J&K Sajad Bazaz and Director State Cricket Academy Mubashir Hassan were guest of honours.winning sp champions

Among others present at presentation ceremony were veteran cricketer of J&K Abdur Rouf, star cricketer Abid Nabi, Kashmir Harvard official Sheikh Mubashir, SP School official and cricket coach NP Singh, JK Bank official Naseer Ahmad and organizing secretary of event Gulzar Khan.

Hailing teams for the competitiveness and the talent at disposal, Parvez Rasool, said, “I am delighted to see the talent at display during the event. I also attended the inauguration ceremony of the event in which around 350 cricketers were present and then keenly followed its matches. Seeing the scores and the performance, we do have talent among our youngsters”.

Sajad Bazaz on the hailed organizers Amblin and State Cricket Academy and said that J&K Bank is always at forefront in promotion of the sport.

“This was really a big event conducted on professional lines where in these school going students were given chance to excel at grand stage. J&K Bank is at forefront to promote such events and recently also provided sports kits to cricketers and footballers through Sports Council,” he said.

The event conducted by Amblin in collaboration with State Cricket Academy. It was sponsored by Kashmir Harvard , J&K Bank and Unibic Biscuits.
