Sports Department organizes road race for girls

Budgam Mar 25: Youth Services And Sports Department, the prime department for organizing activities related to games and sports for the school children of the state has begun its activities with full pace in all the 22 Districts of the state after the recently concluded winter break.

The District Youth Services And Sports Office Budgam organised a road race for the girls of all age groups at the District. The race was flagged-off by Varun Shankar, Assistant Divisional Mech. Eng. Northern Railways.

In U/14 age group category Shazia from BMS Khanpora bagged Ist position, Aliya from Ompora bagged 2nd and Nadiya from GMS Razwen stood 3rd in the race. Simultaneously in U/17 category Nelofar Majeed from GHS Ompora, Shafiqa Ahad from GHS Budgam and Jannat from Oxford School Budgam bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. The U/19 category, race was won by Saima Nissar of GHSS Budgam, Aabida from HSS Humhama and Irtiqa from the same institution stood 2nd and 3rd in the road race respectively.

Director General of Youth Services and Sports Department, Dr. Saleem ur Rehman while congratulating the winners of the race has hopped that all the participating girl athletes would take the passion and interest for games and sports to the next level and would take active part in other games of their choice as well. He further stated that the Department is committed to channelize the energies and talent of our young blood in a positive manner and it is a well known fact that sports inculcate the qualities of discipline, honesty, patriotism and many such required qualities in a person which are mandatory for becoming a responsible and respectable citizen.

The inaugural ceremony of road race was attended by senior officials and field staff of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
