LocalTo get win in Kashmir was special, says Mohun Bagan coach
Jubilant Mohun Bagan football club coach who saw his side climbing to third spot on points table after defeating hosts Real Kashmir 1-0 on Nov 20, said that it is extra special to earn full three points in this kind of atmosphere.
Real Mohun 1
“To win here is special as we brushed aside the extra pressure created by chilly weather, altitude, synthetic turf as well as the full blown home support. It is not easy to play in Srinagar and to get away with full three away points from here is really great,” said Mohun Bagan coach Sankarlal Chakraborty in the post-match press briefing on Tuesday.
He reiterated his words that synthetic turf are not idle for the football game at this level and said that it made it more difficult for his side.
“I will say it again to play synthetic turf is difficult and players get burn out on this turf. We endured all the pressure to get away with these three crucial points,” he said.
About Real Kashmir and how they played, he said, “I had said it yesterday that Real Kashmir is dangerous side and they play really well. They dominated the proceedings early on and even created lot of pressure. They even had more possession than us. However, we knew that if we stick to our basics we will be able to get the desired result”.
“At half time we went back and studied their loopholes and where we can take them on. They had marked our players well and we changed the game after half time. They play long balls and we tried to cut their supply line by playing our brand of football which is more of passing and ground game. It worked and we came out with full points”.
The star player of the match who scored all important goal for Mohun Bagan Dipanda Dicka said that he was looking for the chances and when it did came he converted that into goal.
“Only few minutes before scoring the goal, I got similar chance but that went wide. Then Kisekka sent a perfect pass and I managed to sneak in with all important goal. Being marked is usual sight for strikers and I am used to it. Their number 4 (Mason) really made life difficult for me,” he said.
