NEW DELHI: Gujarat Lions pacer Andrew Tye and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s leg-spinner Samuel Badree made Friday a special day for bowlers at the ongoing Indian Premier League as they claimed a hat-trick each in their respective matches.hat

First, it was West Indian Badree who claimed the first hat-trick of the season when he dismissed Mumbai Indians’ Parthiv Patel, Mitch McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma in the first game of the double-header on Friday.

The 36-year-old Badree, bowling his second over, tossed the ball up towards Patel but the left-handed batsman got his timing all wrong as he sent it straight towards Chris Gayle at short extra cover. McClenaghan was the next to go as the New Zealand international misjudged a low full toss from Badree to give Mandeep Singh, at long on, a simple catch. Badree completed his hat-trick with a delightful googly which shattered Sharma’s stumps.

Badree, who also claimed the wicket of Nitish Rana later in the innings to finish with figures of four for nine in his four overs, is the 12th man in IPL history to take a hat-trick.
Then in the second game of the day, Tye took a hat-tick on IPL debut as he dismissed Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur in the final over of the Rising Pune Supergiants innings at Rajkot. It could have been four wickets in one over if Ravindra Jadeja hadn’t drop a Rahul Chahar’s catch at deep mid-wicket off the last ball.
Brendon McCullum took a brilliant catch near the long-on ropes to dismiss Ankit off Tye’s first ball, which was followed by Tiwary’s dismissal with a slower delivery. Tye completed the hat-trick by shattering the stumps of Thakur and finished with impressive figures of five for 17 in his four overs.
