Anantnag, July 21: A flamboyant show by J&K’s top all-rounder, Waseem Raza on Sunday piloted Valley Hunk Ganderbal to win in the finals of Bijbehara Cricket Association tourney against home team at Higher Secondary Ground.

Raza first picked a four-wicket-haul with the ball, including the big wicket of international cricketer Parvez Rasool while fought alone till the end with the bat as well.

Bijbehara Sports Club while batting first couldn’t put a good score in this 40-over a side match. They were restricted to a below-par total of 161 runs, courtesy of some special bowling by Ganderbal bowlers. Asif Rasool with 35 runs was the highest run-maker for the hosts.

Chasing the target, Valley Hunks also found themselves in trouble as they lost a few early wickets. However, late middle-order came to the rescue.

Sameer, Danish and Waseem Raza, all scored in 30’s to somehow get their team back on track. Bijbehara again made a comeback, thanks to a magical spell by captain Aqib Nazir who scalped 4 wickets.

Ganderbal was nine down with still 30 odd runs to get. Luckily, Raza was still at the crease. The southpaw played exceptionally well and was well supported by number 11 batsman Zaid from the other end.

Match went down to 7 required off the last over. Raza was on strike and he smoked the very first ball to the boundary, giving Valley an upper hand. He made sure to not take any risks in following two balls and finished the match with 3 balls to spare.

The all-rounder was later adjudged as man of the final while as young cricketer Yawar bagged emerging talent award. The tournament was being played at the turf wicket layed at Higher Secondary Ground, Bijbehara.
