J&K Cricket Association recently announced the J&K Cricket Team for Syed Mushtaq Team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Tournament; there are questions about who did the selection.
JKCA announced the 16 member team for the tournament that sans some known names and notable among them is Mohammad Mudhasir and Rasikh Salam.
While there are both positive and negative feedback for the team selection, the big question that has been raised is who did the selection and how was selection done.
“Selectors were not in Jammu and when they did arrive it was raining and followed by Curfew. They did not watch anything and then how come they selected team,” said a cricketer.
After State based senior selection committee resigned owing to differences with Irfan Pathan roped in outside selectors lead by Rashid Patel former Test cricketer. There was only one selector who belonged to State.
During while selection process only this Jammu based selector was available while other selector arrived when Jammu was receiving rainfall and players training in KC Cricket Academy.
Selectors arrived in Jammu when violence erupted in city. They were confined to their hotel rooms and during the selection process never got a look at the players and their abilities.
“These are the selectors who don’t know out players. They did not watched them play and then how does they selected team. It is now clear these selectors are there only for fulfilling formality and have no proper role in selection,” said a cricketer.
“JKCA should have made it clear that it is the powerful persons in the management and team who would be doing selection. Dropping of Mohammad Mudhasir can never be justified and looks like a personal animosity rather than a pure selection procedure,” said another cricketer.
