Zaberwan Premier League auction held

CricketZaberwan Premier League auction held

Around 500 players went under the hammer during the players’ auction of 4th Zaberwan Premier League (ZPL) at Nigeen Club here on Sunday.

To get their names in the 18 teams of the league, 500 players had put their names in the auction list. With each team already having four icon players in the squad, they had to pick 12 players during the auction. 216 players sold during the auction while as 284 remained unsold.

This is fourth edition of the league and it has turned into one of the major cricket leagues of Kashmir as it is being played on turf wicket. Among others present on the occasion was former Ranji trophy cricketer Samiullah Beigh.

Giving details about the league, spokesperson of the ZPL Akki Bhai said: “This league is different from other leagues that are running in Kashmir. It is the only league outside J&K Cricket Association purview that is played on turf wicket. In short time it has become popular among the cricketers of the state with almost all top level cricketers taking part in it”.

“This auction is to give players platform to get into the eyes of the teams otherwise it doesn’t fulfill any purpose. Without auction many unknown players who get selected into teams will not come into the eyes of teams at all,” he added.
