13th State Wushu championship begins at Jammu

Local13th State Wushu championship begins at Jammu

Srinagar: The 4-day 13th J&K State Wushu championship commenced at Indoor Hall MA Stadium Jammu. Around 800 participants from 17-Districts are participating in the championship. The District Associations participating in the championships are as: Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla,Kupwara, Ganderbal,Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora, Kargil,Leh, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi and Jammu.wushu-championship-begins

The Championship was declared open by veteran sports administrator Aushtosh Sharma Secretary General J&K Olympic Association, the function was presided by  Ranjeet Kalra the {Vice Chairman of the Sports Council Jammu) Vijay Saraf (President Of Wushu Association of J&K) Jt. Secretary Jammu Shiv Kumar Sharma, Chief Sports Officer Haji Qayoom , were present during the Function. They appreciated the efforts of the Wushu Association for promoting the Wushu in all regions of the State. During their speech, they congratulated the Medalists of the Wushu at the International and National level and wished them best of luck for the forthcoming World Championship and Asian Games highlighted the many efforts being initiated s tireless efforts in promoting the game.

Speaking on the occasion Ranjeet Kalra appreciated the efforts of Wushu association under India coach Kuldeep Handoo for promoting the game. Kalra also highlighted the initiatives being taken by the council for promotion of sports especially the personal initiative and encouragement being showered by the Chief Minister,who is also the President of state Sports council,on accomplished players. The opening fight of the sub junior category in 30 kg was of teen sensation Tajamul Islam who defeated Shaftan Hamid from Baramulla..

The president of the Wushu Association appealed J&K State Sports Council to provide basic facilities to the District Wushu Associations, so that they can earn their berth for the National and International events. Moreover he also conveyed that the Wushu Sports being the Priority Sports in the state and is the only sports in J&K which is giving medals at the World and Asian Championships, has not been given due share.

The vote of thanks was presented by Kuldeep Handoo, who thanked the guests for giving their valuable time, Secretary J&K Sports council Waheed Parra, , SP Singh, manager KK Hakku Stadium, Indoor Manager Satish  Gupta for their kind support and  making this event a grand success. He also thanked all the District Associations and Partiipating players and wished them best of Luck.
