Local1st IMF All India Sport Climbing Event concludes

Srinagar, June 26: The first ever 2-day All India National sport lead climbing competition concluded here at Srinagar in which over 100 climbers from 22 states participated.climbing tourism

The event was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) here at sport climbing wall at TRC Nowgam.

The participants competed in in sub-junior, junior, men and women categories.

All the seven zones of IMF including East zone featuring 12 climbers, West Zone with 28 climbers, North Zone with 39 climbers, South Zone with 4 climbers, North East Zone with 10 climbers and Services Zone with 6 climbers and Police Zone having 5 climbers are participating in the competitions.

Judges, trainers, route tellers and other officials from other states participated in the event.

Director tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah presided over the concluding ceremony and gave away medals, trophies and certificates to winners and participants.

In his address, Director tourism Kashmir thanked IMF for choosing Srinagar venue for the national championship which, he said, would go a long with in promoting sport climbing in J&K State.

While complementing the participants for turning up in large numbers for the event, he urged them to be ambassadors of the J&K state.

He said the department would also organize more such events in the future in collaboration with the IMF so that the state not only produces best climbers but also helps in promoting tourism.

Director tourism Kashmir said the department created this facility and organized many events in the past to train local youth in adventure sports.

“We have trained local boys who were imparted skills in sport climbing for past few years. Some of them participated in this championship,” said Director tourism Kashmir.

He also hailed J&K’ Shivani Charak for claiming gold in Women’s Open Lead event.

President IMF, Col HS Chauhan inaugurated the event on Sunday morning in presence of Secretary Tourism to J&K Rigzian Sampheal, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood Ahmad Shah and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.

IMF President also hailed J&K Tourism department for wholehearted support to the event to make it successful.

He said IMF would collaborate with the department for more such event in future.
