In an online poll done by KSW, 64% people considered Waheed ur Rehman Para’s reign as dark phase for J&K Sports while as 36% thought, it was the golden period.
After the coalition Government collapsed in J&K, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para who is President, Youth PDP, resigned from his post of Secretary, J&K Sports Council.
He was assigned this job in 2016, after Mehbooba Mufti took over as CM of J&K. Para was also part of CM’s advisory panel apart from being the Secretary, Sports Council and President, Youth PDP.
“Previous heads of Sports Council were either bureaucrats or experts but Para being politically influenced Secretary, almost damaged the Sports in state,” wrote a Facebook user in the comments section of the poll.
Other user called his association with Sports Council as ‘dirty politics done’,
“Whatever he did during his time with Sports Council was nothing but dirty politics,” a user mentioned.
While majority censured his journey with Sports Council but some people came to rescue as well,
“He was very supportive and had huge respect for sports and sportspersons,” a user commented.
One more user regarded Para’s stint with Sports Council as ‘Golden era’,
‘He is young, energetic and very focused leader. He took some brilliant steps to promote sports in J&K,” He wrote.
