Srinagar, December 16: In a major incident on the first day of Kashmir province J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) selection camp for senior T20s, celebrated cricketer, Abid Nabi confronted cricket association officials and J&K team’s skipper Parvez Rasool over being dropped from district Srinagar probables.
District Srinagar Cricket Association on Wednesday announced list of around 25 cricketers as probables for the Kashmir province shortlist. The list didn’t include of Abid Nabi, who in his early days went on to play for India U19s.
These Srinagar players today joined other shortlisted district players as Kashmir province trials at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar got underway.
After not getting selectors call, Abid Nabi stormed into cricket stadium on Wednesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said that Abid Nabi first confronted newly-elected secretary of Srinagar Cricket Association and got involved in a heated argument with the official.
“He was asking for the reason to be dropped from Srinagar list of probables. He was also questioning the eligibility of the selector who did the selection. He repeatedly was heard saying that the selector appointed lacked the experience and wasn’t eligible to do such level of selection, ” eyewitnesses said.
Eyewitness further said that soon after confronting Secretary Srinagar Association, he went on to confront Parvez Rasool, who was also taking part in the trials at Stadium.
“Abid after not getting answers from the official went on to confront Parvez Rasool. He got involved in heated argument with majority of talk being done by Abid. Out of nowhere Abid removed the stump from the turf and after that tried to move towards Parvez. Cricketers present held him and stopped the situation from getting out of control, ” eyewitness further said.
The witnesses said that Abid was present in stadium throughout the day and left late in the evening.
Meanwhile, while speaking with Kashmir News Trust, Abid Nabi said that there are major frauds in selection process in JKCA and players are not being given proper chance.
“JKCA is not following Lodha panel recommendations. The selectors have not played the number of matches being recommended by the panel, ” Abid said.
Later, Secretary Srinagar Association also spoke with KNT and said that it is not necessary that a player who has been playing for 15 years would be selected.
“There was selector who did the selection and would believe selection was fair, ” He was recorded saying by KNT.
