With just three matches left with all of them must win for the Royal Challenger’s Bangalore (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL) , there is bad news for them as their premier pacer has been ruled out of the event.

South African Dale Steyn has been ruled out of rest of the IPL due to a shoulder injury. This was announced by franchise on Thursday, April 25.

The pacer had joined RCB in place of Australian Nathan Coulter-Nile only last week. His inclusion in the team brought change in fortunes for the bottom-ranked side. He played in two games and sat out for the clash against Kings XI Punjab at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 24.

“Dale Steyn has been prescribed with ample rest due to inflammation in his shoulder. On account of state of his health, Dale will not be available to take part further in the ongoing season of IPL,” Sanjeev Churiwala, chairman of Royal Challengers Bangalore, said in a statement.

“His presence has helped the team immensely and we are very thankful for the inspiration and passion that he brought to the squad. The team will deeply miss his energy and presence around.  We wish him a speedy recovery and all the luck for all future endeavours,” the chairman said.

A report said that Steyn will head back to South Africa.

“Dale Steyn will return back to South Africa after his right shoulder flared up while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Steyn will be assessed by a shoulder specialist and measures will be put in place to get him ready for the World Cup next month,” a report said.
