Srinagar, January 09: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named J&K’s Abdul Samad among ten players who can leave a positive impression in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

Samad, after an unforgettable season for J&K in last domestic season, played a few handy cameos for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. His six-hitting ability impressed one and all, hence he is likely to be retained by the franchise ahead of upcoming IPL 2021.

Taking note of Samad’s swashbuckling batting, the BCCI’s official website named him among the ten players who can light up the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in one of its articles.

“He had earned an IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) following his big-hitting exploits in the domestic cricket last season and Abdul Samad will be out to make a mark once again for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the coming edition of the SMAT. The swashbuckling right-hander was vital to his team’s progress to the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals and if he repeats his six-hitting heroics, it will bolster J&K’s chances to reach the knockouts of SMAT this season.” The description about Samad read.

Apart from Samad, Devdutt Padikkal, Surya Kumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Ishant Sharma etc also feature in this 10-player list.

The T20 tournament will kick-start Indian domestic season, which has been badly impacted by Covid-19. J&K will start its campaign against Karnataka on January 10.
