CricketBCCI likely to allow Indian players to feature in foreign T20 leagues: Report

Srinagar: After years of strict control, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is finally easing on to allow Indian cricketers to play in foreign T20 Leagues, according to various media reports.

After the purchase of six teams by IPL franchises in CSA’s newly announced T20 league, the BCCI is now open to the idea of allowing Indian players in foreign franchise leagues after facing pressure from IPL franchises.

“Few IPL teams with a presence in leagues abroad have requested the BCCI to allow Indian players,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

“But we have to discuss this at the AGM before coming to any conclusion. It is a contentious issue as IPL is successful because of the exclusivity it provides. Definitely, we won’t lose that. As for Indian players playing abroad, it may happen due to the growing number of franchise leagues.”

At present, only female Indian cricketers are allowed to take part in overseas leagues, and a few retired players from the men’s side have also featured in overseas competitions.

The report also said that top players including the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be participating in any of the other T20 leagues.
