Guwahati, April 23: Right-arm speedster Bismah Hassan wrecked havoc, capturing 4/20 in her 4 overs as the bowlers guided Jammu and Kashmir to a thrilling 8-run win over formidable Pondicherry in the ongoing BCCI’s Senior Womens T20 Trophy at Amingaon Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Friday.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K began on a disastrous note, losing two early wickets in the form of openers Sarla Devi (00) and Bawandeep Kour without scoring, however, the duo of Bushra Ashraf and Sheerazah Banoo took the score to 59 runs in 14.2 overs before both fell in quick succession.
Though both these batters used good number of balls to make a slow partnership of 59 runs, yet their sedate innings’ helped the team to reach a modest but fighting total of 90 runs in the stipulated 20 overs on a bowling friendly surface. Sheerazah Banoo scored 31 runs off 49 balls, studded with 3 boundaries, while Bushra Ashraf contributed 28 runs off 36 balls with the help 3 fours.
Explosive Rubia Sayed once again came into the rescue of the team, scoring 14 runs off 16 balls with a four and a six to give some respectability to the team’s total. J&K finally managed to set a target of 91 runs for Pondicherry.
For Pondicherry, Rebecca was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets by giving away 9 runs in her 4 overs, while skipper Razario bagged 2 wickets by conceding 11 runs in her 3 overs. Janaki and Abirame also shared one wicket each.
In reply, Pondicherry managed to score 82 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process, thus lost the match in an exciting context by a narrow margin of 8 runs. BS Tamore (20), Rebecca (15) and Yuvashri (11) were the main scorers.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Bismah Hassan was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 4 important wickets, while skipper Sandhya Sayal, Sarla Devi and Rubia Sayed shared one wicket apiece.
It is pertinent to mention here that J&K eves produced a masterclass fielding show today. Wicketkeeper Lalita showed that she possesses sharp reflexes, anticipation and has a pair of safe hands in business, taking an unbelievable catch to get rid of the dangerous looking rival skipper, while Bawandeep’s direct hit to get rid of the rival batter at a crucial stage made all the difference. The ground fielding of Rifat, Bushra, Sheerazah and others and the magnificent catches of Rubia and Sarla were really a delight to watch.
It was J&K’s 4th win, out of the five matches played so far in the tournament.
J&K will take on Arunachal Pradesh in the last match of this league stage on April 24 under lights at ACA Stadium, Barsapara, here.
