The stage is set for South Africa selectors to announce its squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup-2019 on Thursday, April 18-2019 and the one name that everybody would be looking into is Hashim Amla.

After a dip in form recently, there are serious doubts on whether selectors will go ahead with Mighty Hash in the squad or not. The lack of cricket recently, first due to not being picked in team and followed by ill health of Father meant that South African legend has unable to get quality time in middle before the team would be announced.

Hashim Amla, 36, is one of South Africa’s all-time great one-day international players but his recent form has been poor.

In four innings of Test series against Sri Lanka, Amla only was able to score 51 runs. That followed selectors omitting him from the upcoming first three one-day internationals against the Lanks, although Cricket South Africa stressed he had not been dropped.

Later he was about to make comeback and play the final two one-day games against same side but withdrew because his father was seriously ill.

As per reports after more than a month out of cricket, Amla returned for the Cape Cobras franchise in a domestic Twenty20 competition in early April but his first three matches yielded only 28 runs.

He showed signs of promise for the Cobras on Sunday with an innings of 32 — his joint-highest score in any form of cricket since a one-day series against Pakistan in January.

With captain Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller and JP Duminy all seemingly certain of selection, there is probably room for only two more top-order batsmen in a 15-man squad.

Like all the cricket fanatics around the world who would want elegant Hash in the side, selectors would also be under lot of pressure whether to go with the experience of Amla or go with some another inform batsman. But one can never argue that in big event matches, the experience and calm nature of Amla will come handy and there is still lot of time left in which he can regain his rhythm.
