Srinagar: In a first in the history of IPL, it is for the first time in 16 seasons that rain has forced to call off final and move it to reserve day. The IPL 2023 CSKvsGT final now will be played on Monday in Ahmedabad.
In the final visitors Chennai Super Kings will clash with home side and defending champions Gujarat Titans.
“The #Final of the #TATAIPL 2023 has been moved to the reserve day on 29th May – 7:30 PM IST at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.Physical tickets for today will be valid tomorrow. We request you to keep the tickets safe & intact,” IPL announced.
Meanwhile from 7PM to 11PM, fans, players, experts and everyone else waited in anticipation. The closest they came to dreaming of a start was around 9PM when albeit briefly, the rain stopped. The covers were off and the players and officials were out to assess the field. But just when things looked slightly positive, the rain returned as a drizzle only to get heavier as the night progressed. Finally, after four disappointing hours, play was called off.
