Srinagar: After being hesitant previously and filing litigations to stop J&K Football Association (JKFA) elections , the National and International Footballers Forum (NIFF) has jumped into the elections fray for the District Football Association (DFA) Srinagar by filing nominations.
The elections of the DFA Srinagar are scheduled to be held on September 13 while as Saturday was the last day to file nominations for the post of DFA President, Secretary and Treasurer.
With DFA Srinagar activities having come to standstill owing to stay order by the Court on the litigation filed by couple of clubs, Court had asked JKFA to hold District elections before resuming activities.
In that regard JKFA General Secretary issued a notice and asked for the nominations.
The last day of the nomination received applications from NIFF as well who have fielded its candidates for all the three positions.
It would be major surprise for the football fraternity as it was not expected that NIFF would be fighting Districts elections after being vocal about the various issues that will eventually contradict their own stand.
Former JKFA General Secretary has filed nomination for the DFA Srinagar President post while as former DFA Spokesperson had filed nomination for Secretary post. For the treasurer post, NIFF has fielded a football coach.
From other end , Current Secretary DFA has filed nomination for the President post while as football coach has filed for the post of secretary. Former J&K senior footballer has filed nomination for the post of Treasurer.
It is said that , DFA Srinagar elections would be prelude to JKFA elections. The one who emerges winner in this election would be favourite to win main body elections.
