Srinagar, October 17: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today was presented team jersey of the newly formed old city Srinagar based football club Downtown Heroes FC.

Khan was presented the team jersey by club officials Mushtaq Bashir, Hinan Bhat, Shabir Ahmed and coach Mohammad Haneef.

While presenting jersey to Advisor, club officials briefed Khan about the vision and current status of the club that aspires to play on the biggest stage of the Indian Football arena in future.

Advisor was impressed with the vision and plan of the Downtown Heroes FC and wished them all the luck in their future endeavours. “It is great to see professional football clubs coming up in J&K and pushing this game to greater heights. The Goverment is focussed on to provide top level facilities and coaching to our youngsters and in that direction clubs like this would help a great deal, ” Advisor Khan was quoted as saying.

“Downtown is known for its sports and over the years has given J&K some top level footballers. It is good that this club is based in Old City of Srinagar and is focussed on to develop grass root level talent apart from playing at top level. I am hopeful this club will expand its vision to other parts of valley in future, ” He added.

Downtown Heroes FC affiliated with J&K Football Association is newly formed professional football club based in Old City of Srinagar. It has been formed with the aim to develop footbal in old city and then later expand its activities to other parts of Valley. The club recently held open trials to unearth the talent and to give those players a chance to play for the club at top level. The club is scheduled to play it’s first ever match on October 20 in Anantnag Champions Knockout Football tournament.

“We are the group of people who have come forward to form a professional football club based in Old City of Srinagar. The club is dedicated to the talent of old city and it’s vast history. We are thankful to Advisor Khan for encouraging us to achieve bigger heights, ” Said club official Mushtaq Bashir.

Another club official Hinan Bhat said that they wanted to have unveiling ceremony of Jersey before playing it’s first match.

“We had planned to hold a function in which we wanted to invite all football legends of J&K. However as club is scheduled to play it’s first match on October 20 there was not enough time left for big function. We had to do it in simple ceremony for which we are thankful to Advisor Farooq Khan, ” He said.

Club coach Mohammad Haneef said that team still is in building process and once the full squad would be selected they will reveal it. “We had selected some talented players through trials while as we are in talks with some established names as well. Once everything would be clear we will register our squad with J&K Football Association, ” He said.
