Srinagar: Department of Youth Services ans Sports conducted multiple sports activities across J&K on Tuesday.
Central Kashmir
The Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Ganderbal, in collaboration with District Administration Ganderbal successfully organized a Padh Yatra (Walkathon) on 23rd May 2023 under the banner of G20. The event, held in Zone Ganderbal, was supervised and guided by Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, DYSSO Ganderbal. The Walkathon commenced early in the morning, with Mr. Sheikh Manzoor Ahmad, the Activity In-charge DYSSO Ganderbal (PEM), flagging off the event from the lawns of the Mini Secretariat Ganderbal. The walk concluded at Government College of Physical Education Gadoora Ganderbal, witnessing the participation of 300 enthusiastic students from Zone Ganderbal.
Simultaneously, in the heart of city, District Srinagar, an Inter-District Provincial Level Badminton competition for boys was taking place at the indoor stadium polo view, with the participation of 50 boys representing all districts of Kashmir Zone. The event was organized by DYSSO Srinagar, aiming to promote sportsmanship and healthy competition among the youth.
In District Budgam, the Under-19 Girls Inter-District UT Level Athletic Competitions commenced at Shiekh-ul-Alam Khel Maidan Charar-i-Sharief Budgam. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Balbir Singh Sodi, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam, along with I/C Activity DYSSO Budgam. The inaugural ceremony began with a pledge to keep society free from drugs, emphasizing the importance of sports as a means to deter youth from harmful activities. Ten districts were expected to participate, out of which seven districts have reported their participation. A total of 60 athletes showcased their skills and talent in various athletic events.
The closing ceremony was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including DYSSO Budgam, Balbir Singh Sodi, and the entire field staff of the district. At the end of the event, medals were awarded to the position holders, acknowledging their exceptional efforts.
Additionally, Department of Youth Services and Sports Budgam organized Yoga Events for boys and girls in Zone Magam. This event was held as part of the G-20 Presidency of India. A large number of participants from various schools enthusiastically took part in the Yoga Events, highlighting the active involvement of youth in sports activities.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports Budgam, under the able supervision and guidance of DYSSO Budgam, Mr. Balbir Singh Sodi, is actively organizing numerous activities in different games and sports in connection with the ongoing G-20 summit. These initiatives aim to create awareness among the youth about the significance of the scheduled G-20 summit and its impact on India.
North Kashmir
The Department of Youth Services and Sports Zone Chandanwari organized a day trekking program as part of the G20 celebrations. The event saw the participation of approximately 170 students from different schools, as well as the field staff of the Zone. The trekking route started from H.S. Maquamperan, passing through Kathal, Kalsaam, and Zorawar. The trekking expedition headed towards Beladori and Mayaan, with the final destination being H.S. Maquamperan. The participants covered a distance of approximately 15 km. The students displayed great enthusiasm and wholeheartedly participated in the event.
Bandipora
Bandipora came alive with a series of sports activities as part of the G20 Celebrations, showcasing the energy and spirit of the youth in the region. The festivities commenced with the “Padh Yatra” event, which witnessed a grand flag-off ceremony by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, Amir Chaudhary, at HSS Sumbal. Over 200 enthusiastic boys and girls from various schools participated in the event, held at Wangipora ground.
In Zone Quil MS Guzerbal, an exciting trekking expedition was organized, with 80 students embarking on a journey from Buthoo to Hudbal forest Division. The expedition aimed to promote physical fitness and foster an appreciation for nature among the young participants.
Simultaneously, HSS Quilmuqam organized a community drive under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat, focusing on raising awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. This initiative aimed to in-still a sense of responsibility and educate the youth about leading a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
In Sports Zone Hajin’s Sadnura Block, a mini sports mela was organized, engaging students in various games as part of the G-20 summit celebrations. The event aimed to encourage teamwork, fair play, and camaraderie, fostering a sense of unity and sportsmanship among the participants.
The Bandipora Zone took the lead in organizing different games and walks, emphasizing the theme of G20, which centres around promoting peace and collaboration among nations. The event witnessed active participation from students across various schools, highlighting the immense enthusiasm and passion of the youth in the region.
Kupwara
Department of Youth Services and Sports Kupwara conducted Inter Zonal District level and Inter School Zonal Level Competitions in various disciplines at the zonal and district headquarters as part of the G-20 celebrations and the scheduled activities. The competitions were held under the supervision of Zahoor Ahmad Wani, DYSSO Kupwara.
Alongside the regular activities, Road Races were organized at the Zonal headquarters of Kupwara and Trehgam. The race started from Gushi and was flagged-off by District Youth Services and Sports Officer, accompanied by the Zonal Physical Education Officer, Kupwara. A large number of students enthusiastically participated in the event. These activities are organized in alignment with the G-20 hosted by Jammu and Kashmir, with the aim of disseminating information about the summit among the masses.
Furthermore, an Inter Zonal District Level Competition in the discipline of carrom was conducted, where participants showcased their enthusiasm, discipline, and skills. The teams, dressed in sports attire, presented a beautiful spectacle that captivated both spectators and passersby. The venues were elegantly adorned, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The selected players from these competitions will represent the district in the upcoming Inter District Level competitions.
Simultaneously, Inter School Zonal Level Competitions are underway at the Zonal headquarters as part of the preparation for team deployment in subsequent events.
South Kashmir
Sports grounds produce soothing looks in south Kashmir.
Youth Services and Sports Department’s Pulwama’s Sports zone Tahab celebrated Yoga day in connection with G-20 summit which is being held under the presidency of India and Srinagar is hosting the meetings of all these developed countries from 22nd to 24th of May with the aim to promote tourism and boost the economy of the state.
The event was organized at Mehboob ul Aalam Public School Lassipiea and have witnessed more than five hundred students from different schools of the area.
Likewise, events were organised by zone Tral and some other zones to celebrate G20 presidency
For making youth aware of the G-20 Summit the Department of youth services & Sports organized a scores of events at different levels in which zone Vailoo continued Yoga for Girls Under Age Groups of 14 & 17 to keep Youth away from Drugs. Zone Bidder organized a Volleyball tournament for Girls Under the Age Group of 14 at HSS KOKERNAG on synthetic turf from both Government & Private Schools. Interacting on this occasion with participating students the principal of HSS Kokernag praised the Department for utilizing the facility of Synthetic Turf for polisihing the talent of young budding players.
Similarly in Kulgam’s Government’s Girls Model Higher Secondary school a grand Yoga event under the banner of G20 summit was organized.
Simultaneously the Department of Youth Services Shopian kick started cricket tournament for U-19 boys at Sports Stadium Shopian.
The event was inaugurated by District Youth Services and sports officer Shopian in presence of other officials.
In light of India’s G-20 Presidency, Zone Vehil Shopian, conducted Yoga Display of all age groups at HSS Ramnagri.
IN sports Zone Imamsahib also a Kabaddi tourney of BOYS (U/14 age group) was organized at HS Losedanow. Various students from different institutions of the zone participated.
