Govt employee granted imported cycle, Cyclists protests decision

LocalGovt employee granted imported cycle, Cyclists protests decision

Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNS): Cyclists that include top cyclist of Kashmir, Mohammad Akber Khan have questioned J&K State Sports Council’s move of granting imported cycle to ‘Government Employee and out of competition cyclist Umer Nabi as sponsorship.umer nabi granted cycle
Sports Council recently granted imported cycle worth more than 2-lakhs to cyclist who works in Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and has not been active in competitive cycling front from last two years.
“It was shock when I came to know about the development. I am happy that Sports Council is coming to the help of players but elements like these are taking them for ride by misleading them. Umer is Government employee in DYSS and also is not active in cycling arena. He doesn’t require such type of help,” said Akber.
“Sports Council should help deserving young players instead of those who are just after money. What will He do to this cycle? He doesn’t compete anymore and has got no worthwhile performance at National level. On contrary we have Adil Teli and Mansoor who bagged national medals last year. Apart from them there are young riders who should be helped,” he said.
He requested Secretary Sports Council Waheed ur Rehman Parra to look into the matter and don’t allow some unscrupulous elements to misuse public money.
“He is Government employee, comes from well off family. I am unable to understand how his cycle got sanction in Council. I was shocked to see reputed persons like Prof Bashir, Bilquis Mir, Rauf Tramboo in cycle granting photograph. It is clear case of misleading Council officials. The intentions of Waheed ur Rehman Parra are sincere and he helps everyone who comes to him but none should take him for ride. It is duty of persons who are aware of things to make him aware and raise their voice. My conscious doesn’t allow me to remain silent, so what if my own equipment gets withheld in Council,” Khan said.

He suggested Council to keep all the equipment they have granted so far in their custody and grant that to cyclists whenever they go for competition.

“With that anyone can use that and it will help us to develop cycling in J&K,” he said.

Another cyclist, Mohammad Rafi said, “Out of competition atleast from three years and also a Government Employee, sponsored by State Sports Council is very sad. Those who in competition and deserving such type of sponsorship have been side line by the JKSSC. Under which rule he has got Government help that too not from his parent department,” Rafi said.

One more cyclist Mohammad Altaf said that Umer is no more a competitive cyclist and I have defeated Umer on Indian made cycle while he was riding Khyber sponsored imported cycle.

“If he despite being Government employee gets help from Council then I deserve it more than him. Plus no one buys equipment , they are duping Council by showing equipment of other cyclist and gets checks in name of dealer and then give percentage to dealer in liu of cash,” Altaf said.
