Srinagar: Former India cricketer turned expert Aakash Chopra has termed Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq as good player after Pakistan batter jumped ahead of Virat Kohli in the recent ICC ODI rankings.
Chopra said that there is little gap between the two in the rankings but Pakistan opener will stay ahead as Kohli will not be playing too many ODI’s in near future.
Imam on the back of two impressive back-to-back series against Australia and West Indies jumped to second spot with 815 points whereas Kohli slipped to third spot with 811 points.
“Imam has reached the number two spot [in ODI cricket]. He scored tons of runs during the recent tour by West Indies and also did well before that,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“He is a very good player, there is no doubt about that,” he added.
The former Indian opener also added that Imam would stay ahead of Kohli in the ICC rankings in near future.
“There is only four-point gap between Imam and Kohli which isn’t much. But he will stay ahead of Kohli for a little while because Kohli isn’t going to play ODI cricket in the near future,” he said.
In 52 games, Imam-ul-Haq has scored 2,520 runs in ODIs at an impressive of 54.78.
