Srinagar: Despite Washington Sundar’s 28 ball 50, India suffered 21 run defeat against New Zealand in the first T20I played at Ranchi on Friday.

Chasing 177, India had a shaky start and lost early wickets. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya stabilised the innings but failed to convert the start to big scores. Suryakumar Yadav departed after scoring 47 while Hardik scored 21 runs.
In the end, Sundar failed to get support from the other end but steered India to 155/9 in 20 overs. Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell and Lockie Ferguson scalped two wickets each for New Zealand.
Earlier, Daryl Mitchell’s 30-ball 59* and Devon Conway’s 35-ball 52 guided New Zealand to 176/6 in 20 overs after India ask visitors to bat first in Rachi. Finn Allen and Conway gave the perfect start to the side as former played attacking role and smashed 23-ball 35. New Zealand lost quick wickets in the middle overs but Mitchell made sure that Kiwis finish on a big total.
For India, Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-22 in four overs.
