Srinagar, September 7: The upcoming season of Indian domestic cricket is likely to be cancelled, given the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier said they might host at least major tournaments. However, now, with no relief in Covid-19 across India, the board thinks the possibility of conducting the season is unlikely.
“In certain states, it’s bad. In other states, it’s worse. The numbers are unrelenting. In such a scenario, how does one plan anything over a period of three or four months, when you’re not sure what’s in store tomorrow,” TOI quoted BCCI sources as saying.
The cancellation of domestic season will render a number of cricketers disappointed since most of them depend of cricket earnings. Pertinently, age-group cricketers will also lose a vital year.
