Indian Olympic contingent’s manager tests Covid positive


Srinagar, February 02: Mohammad Abbas Wani, the manager of India’s Olympic contingent, has tested Covid-19 positive on arriving to Beijing for Winter Olympics.

Kashmir’s Arif Khan is the only Indian athlete to have made it to the Beijing Winter Olympics. He is accompanied by a six-member delegation, including Abbas as manager.

The contingent also includes Harjinder Singh as its chef de mission, Ludar Chand Thakur as alpine coach, Puran Chand as technician and Rop Chand Negi as team official.

“The manager of the Indian contingent Mr. Abbas Wani tested COVID positive at Beijing Airport. The chef de mission Mr. Harjinder Singh is coordinating for a re-test,” Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narinder Batra informed as per a report in PTI.

“The athlete and his coach have been shifted to another flat to avoid any interaction,” Batra said.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20 and Arif Khan is all-set to participate in two games.
