Top footballer of the state, Ishfaq Ahmad has signed up for newly introduced franchisee side in Indian Super League (ISL), Jamshedpur FC as its assistant coach.

The popular footballer, who recently completed his B-level AFC coaching certificate course, was part of Sachin Tendulkar owned side, Kerala Blasters as player cum coach during last three seasons. He was also recently inducted by All India Football Federation (AIFF) as member of its football development committee. Ishfaq has signed a two-year contract with Jamshedpur FC side that is owned by Tata Steel.

 “It’s official, former England winger Steve Coppell and Indian star footballer Ishfaq Ahmed kick off our ISL- Indian Super League journey as coaches for Jamshedpur FC, Tata Steel Football Academy official statement read.

Ishfaq Ahmed has been has been playing in national football since joining HAL as 20 year old in 2002. Over the years he has represented India and ahs also played some of the top teams of the Country like, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammadan Sporting, Dempo. His transition from being an active player to coach has been smooth so far with Kerala Blasters during last two seasons giving him chance to be coach cum player for the side.

Meanwhile during same time he did his two professional coaching courses and has now joined Jamshedpur as assistant coach of one of the known International footballer of his time, Steve Coppell of England.

“It is new side and we are looking to build it and make it one of the powerhouses of India football. The beginning is always important and I am lucky that I have got the opportunity to part of its beautiful that is set to kick off in ISL,” he said. (Courtesy GK)
