Danish Ali emerged the new champion by winning the Islamia College annual cycle race held here on Thursday morning.
The race which was flagged off by Prof. Muzafar Ahmed Khan Principal of the college and it 42 students participated, who displayed enthusiasm during the course of the race.
On duty staff of the college encouraged and boosted the morale of the cyclists enroute to the finish line at Naseem bagh , covering a distance of 14.3 kilometres.
Danish Ali covered the distance in 23:20:761 minutes followed by Samiullah in 23:28:734 and Suhail Nisar in 24:45:966 minutes. The 4th and 5th positions were grabbed by Syed Ashtar and Umar Manzoor by clocking the timings of 28:05:373 and 28:08:598 minutes respectively.
In a simple but impressive award ceremony in the end the Principal gave away the trophies to the five position holders and impressed upon them to inculcate a habit to participate in the games of their interest in and outside the college alongside their studies in order to be embodiments of sound mind in sound bodies.
Prof. Abid Mirza convenor college sports committee presented the vote of thanks to participating students and the staff members for making the hassle free race a grand success. Dr. Altaf ur Rehman expressed his gratitude to Director Tourism Govt of J&K Mahmood Ahmed Shah for providing cycles to the college students for participation in the race. The event was organised by the department of Physical Education of the college.
