Srinagar, April 3: Hosts Islamia College Saturday defeated GDC Pulwama by 6 wickets in the semifinals of the ongoing Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket tourney, here.

Before the toss, both the teams were welcomed by Prof. Shiekh Ajaz Bashir, Principal Islamia College on the cricket turf of the college with other faculty members also present on the occasion.

Host college captain invited the the visiting team to bat first after winning the toss and restricted them to a total of 141 in 26 overs on a good batting strip. Zahid Latif (44) and captain Zahid’s quick fire 43 in 19 helped them acLeft arm spiner Junaid Aslam of Islamia College was unplayable with the ball as he removed 6 Pulwama batsmen with his accurate bowling. Chasing a target of 142 runs the hosts overhauled it in 20.1 overs losing 4 wickets in the process. Ishfaq and Aafan hit fifties for host team. Zahid of Pulwama College continued his good form with the ball as well taking 3 wickets. Junaid Aslam was adjudged the man of the match. Tomorrow on Sunday, GDC Baramulla will face GDC Anantnag in another semifinal. The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education Islamia College in memory of Prof. Mohammed Yousuf Saheb an ex principal of the college.
