J&K administration has temporarily converted two Indoor stadiums into wellness centers for COVID 19 patients with J&K State Sports Council keeping its 13 facilities at the disposal of the administration.

Among the 13 facilities made available, the administration has already converted two multi-purpose indoor facilities into the wellness centers in Kashmir while as work has started on converting Indoor Hall MA Stadium in Jammu.

The Sheri-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar has been converted into 120 bed quarantine facility while as newly built Baramulla Indoor Stadium has been converted into 100-bedded facility. The work on MA Stadium Jammu has already started and within next couple of days that facility will also be available to cater to around 100 beds.

Apart from these, administration has asked Sports Council to make its Indoor Stadium facilities in Sumbal Bandipora, Ganderbal,  Baghwati Nagar Jammu, Akhnoor, RS Pora, Rajouri, Ram Nagar Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Poonch available which JKSSC has already made available. However, administration is yet to start work on the conversion of those facilities.

“We were asked to make these designated facilities available for the temporarily conversion of them into wellness centre cum quarantine facility amid COVID-19 pandemic. We acted and kept them at the disposal of the administration. Among the 13 made available facilities’ Administration has already converted two into quarantine centers while as work on third has started,” said Dr Naseem Javed Chowdhary Secretary Sports Council.

“With COVID-19 pandemic bringing rest of their daily activities to halt, sports too has suffered with not a single activity taking place anywhere. All these stadiums currently are free and they are perfect for converting into emergency quarantine facility. All these facilities are spacious and can be converted into big isolation wards with easy access,” he added.

He said that he is not aware whether administration would require other facilities or not but they have kept all the facilities ready.

“The day we were asked to keep these facilities ready, we directed our ground staff to keep everything in place. In case they need it they shouldn’t face any problem. Apart from sports centers Administration has also taken charge of various College hostels and I am hoping that we may not need all these facilities,” he added.
