JKCA defies its own statement, allows senior Jammu cricketer direct entry to final selection of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

LocalJKCA defies its own statement, allows senior Jammu cricketer direct entry to final selection of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Defying its own statement, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has allowed a senior cricketer from Jammu to directly participate in the final selection trials of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

JKCA Sub-Committee Member Brig. Anil Gupta had on May 01 issued a statement, saying no player would be eligible for national selection until they participate in JKCA’s “Cricket for Peace” event.

There was a custom, system or you may call it a practice that some prominent players used to attend the nets straightway for final selection. And that custom needs to be stopped once and for all. This time no player will be selected without participating in JKCA’s domestic tourney. Participation of players in domestic tournaments is mandatory for selection,” Brig Gupta had said in a statement to the press.

However, a senior Jammu cricketer joined the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy selection camp at Srinagar on Friday without having played any of the JKCA’s domestic events this season.

“Was this rule not for everyone? Or there are some players who are not needed to follow the rules? When they (JKCA) themselves said that no player would be allowed to take part in final trials without participating in domestic tournaments, how can they allow this particular player?” a player, wishing not to be named, said in anguish.

“As you can read the statement yourself, it clearly says that “this custom needs to be stopped once and for all”! Does it mean that JKCA has no credibility? When they won’t follow their own sayings, what transparency can we expect in other matters?” he added.

Kashmir Sports Watch (KSW) tried to reach JKCA for their comment on the issue, however, we didn’t receive any response. As and when we receive a response, the story would be updated.
