Srinagar, Oct 22: After a long gap, J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) held its Executive Committee meeting in which plans for future activities was laid out.

The meeting that was chaired by JKMHC President, Mahmood Ahmad Shah discussed the activities carried out by club during past one year and also the performances of club members in various events. The club that is one of the oldest club of the State has been in forefront during last three years to promote adventure sports activities among the youth. The club has been undertaking regular activities that attracts youth from far and wide, a statement issued by JKMHC said.

The EC meeting started with members condoling the demise of its veteran member Jagdish Mahatta who had contributed immensely towards Kashmir. The members also were grieved over the loss of property in Sukhnai Warwan area in recent fire incident. The club decided to depute its team with relief material for the affected families shortly.

About the activities it was revealed that Club members successfully climbed, Stok Kangri, Matho Kangri and Mount vale Head. The members were also informed that club members carried out Shifakhla and Choolingha trek during the period.

The statement said that EC members discussed the performance of its members that took part in first ever Climbathon held in State and they were appreciated for making State proud. On the training front eight members of club underwent course in Basic mountaineering while as two underwent training in High Altitude rescue and medical emergency in Delhi, statement said.

About the future activities, it was unveiled that that Club will collaborate with Disaster Management and Red Cross for training in disaster mitigation. The club will also organize International Mountain day function that falls on December 11 and will, also organize ice climbing event on larger scale this year.

Among other that attended the meeting were Mouzam Bakshi, Naseer Mir, Rauf Tramboo,  Fayaz Bala and Dr Waqar.

On concluding note, club members expressed their delight on publishing of book titled Man and Mountain by one of its member, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan. Book has been launched lately and is available in stores.
