Lionel Messi has the perfect response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s challenge of joining him in Italy

LocalLionel Messi has the perfect response to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge of joining him in Italy

The debates of who between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is the better footballer have been happening for the last decade and will probably continue for the next 3-4 years at least. While both players have created some phenomenal records on the field, there are a few things that separate them. Highlighting one of the differentiating factors, Ronaldo had recently challenged Messi to join him in Italy, having left Real Madrid for Juventus himself during the summer window this year. The Argentine, however, has given a brilliant response to the Portuguese.

“I played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, in the national team, while he is still in Spain. Maybe he needs me more,” the former Manchester United forward had said. “For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. I would like him to come to Italy one day. Like me, accept the challenge.”

Ronaldo has adapted himself to the leagues, clubs and oppositions, no matter where which team he has played for. Messi, meanwhile, was signed by Barcelona at the tender age of 13 and has emerged as unarguably the club’s biggest player in history. In an interview with Marca, however, Messi revealed why he doesn’t fancy a change of clubs.

“Accepting Ronaldo’s challenge to join Italian football? I don’t need any change”, said the Barca skipper responding to his arch-rival. “I’m at the best team in the world. My challenges are renewed year after year. I do not need to change teams or leagues to set new goals. I am at home and I do not need to change.”

In the lengthy interview, Messi had also addressed various other topics, ranging from the prospect of having Neymar and Pep Guardiola back at Barcelona, as well as the Ballon d’Or standings that saw him finish at 5th position this time around.

Both Messi and Ronaldo have been in sublime form this season, leading their respective teams to top of the league standings as the first half of the season concludes. Messi and Ronaldo are also vying for the top scorer’s title this calendar year. While the Argentine is enjoying the mid-season break, the Portuguese still has one more game to go.
