Srinagar, Sept 25: Pakistan cricket team head coach Misbah ul Haq while reviewing his first year as coach of the senior side has said that he wants his players to focus on Test Cricket.
Misbah completed his first year after he was appointed as the head coach of the senior team after the 2019 World Cup.
“The past one year I spent as the coach was fairly testing from where I start. The situation after the World Cup was challenging because our main performers went out of form, some injuries,” he said in an interview with Cricingif.
“I think that there is still a lot to achieve but overall the direction of the team is good and with experience, we will be a much better team,” he added.
Misbah also encouraged players to focus on Test cricket as Test records were considered more important as compared to ODIs and T20s. “If you want to make a name for yourself in the cricketing world then you have to play Test cricket. We are encouraging the players to focus more on the longer version of the game,” he added.
“If you play your domestic cricket, which is an investment for the longer version of the game, then you can develop yourself thereby prolonging your career and T20 and ODI cricket will become easy for you,” he maintained.
Misbah hailed the emergence of Babar Azam, Abid Ali, Mohammad Rizwan in the past one year. “Babar’s and Abid’s performances were exceptional, Rizwan emerging as a decent wicket-keeper batsman. He performed consistently well in the domestic cricket and has worked very hard on his batting and wicket-keeping,” he maintained. (With inputs from ARY)
