Srinagar, July : Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar on Saturday felicitated the top sports stars of Valley as part of the Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute sports award function, held at SP School, here.
The institute held its sports award function, in which it had invited top sports stars of Valley. The stars included international football stars of Valley, Mehraj Ud Din Wadoo, International cyclist Muhammad Akber Khan, known Para Athlete, Showkat Ahmad, marathon runner Tanveer Hussain, judo national medalist Umer Hamza and Taekwon-do player Saad. It was the event to honor these stars for their achievement at international and national level.
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar was chief guest on the occasion while as Director Education, Kashmir Dr Shah Faisal was guest of honor. Among others present on the occasion were Principal SP School, Chairman Kashmir Harward Tariq Ahmad, Principal Kashmir Harward Madom Irfana and JKSDA President Bashir Ahmad Malik.
It was first such type of award function held by any institute of valley in which an institute specifically honored sports stars for their contribution.
Hailing the event and terming it different from the usual ones in which only students are being honored for their academic achievements by the institutes, Naeem said, “We need role models in every field and these stars are our role models in sports arena. They have excelled at every level and have brought laurels for our State from time to time”.
“Our Prophet (SAW) is our role models and he practically showed us the way to do things in various fields. From battle commander to trade merchant to Teacher, he did everything and that is what you (students) should follow. To excel in academics is important and with that you need to go achieve heights in other fields as well,” he said.
JKSDA President Bashir Ahmad Malik said that these type of award functions for our stars are need of the hour.
“We have failed our stars by not honoring them in a manner they deserve. These types of small efforts are to be held on regular basis so that we will honor our stars who have given so much to the State,” Malik said.
Naeem requests Wadoo to be SP School’s brand ambassador
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar on Saturday requested International footballer to be brand ambassador of his Alma matter institute, SP Higher Secondary School.
Minister after learning that Wadoo is product of the SP School requested Wadoo to do something for the institute of which he is a product. Minister suggested him to be brand ambassador of the institute so that name of the institute would be highlighted in big way. Later Naeem
