Srinagar, November 26: National & International Footballers Forum (NIFF) J&K has raised it’s concern over the plight of Departmental football teams and players.

The role played by Govt. Department teams in glorifying the game of football in J&K was immense besides many top players have earned livelihood out of this beautiful game and taken as career, NIFF statement said.

NIFF in its statement said that there used to be 10-15 football teams in J&K and amoung them only few are functional at present.

“During the past there were around 10-15 departmental football teams providing jobs to the players and that was a reason of healthy competitions used to take place both in the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Teams like JKSRTC, Food & Supplies, Forest and many more were having the great fan following and people used to cover miles to watch their heroes playing. Apart from J&K Bank, J&K Police, AG’s Office hardly any department is active and are offering jobs to the players, ” Statement said.

“More than 10 departmental football teams like Forest, Fire Service, Food and Supply, Muncipality, Agro, Water works, R&B and many more discontinued their teams in the recent past which has affected the game by and large. It is really painfull to see the players of Forest and Food and Supplies Departments who played for these departments for as many as 15 years and have brought laurels to them in many Tournaments within and outside J and K are holding daily protests demanding for their regularisation which they were promised for, ” Statement further went on to say.

Sports is an important tool for any Organization be it private or Government. It plays a key role in making its brand presence & mark everywhere and best way to contribute in society we live. Sports not only create athletes but healthy citizens for the society , it’s statement said.

“We request the Lt Governor of J&K to kindly take note of this issue and direct the concerned departments to revive their football teams which will bring back the smiles and interest among the young and talented players of UT of J&K to take up sports again as their careers, ” NIFF statement added.
