In a surprise move, J&K declared quite late in the fog-hit third match against Assam, costing them an opportunity to add a couple of crucial points to their tally.
Sources in the team revealed that it was team management, the coach in particular, who made this decision. J&K was in the top-three of Group C after winning both the intital matches, however, the weather became a roadblock in the third game played at Jammu. First rain and then the fog halted the game, which ended in a draw, rewarding both teams with a point each.
Batting first, J&K declared after batting for almost three days, which cricket pundits believe was a ‘blunder’. “Had they declared earlier, near the score of 250-300, bowlers would have ample time to put Assam on backfoot and get J&K three points from the game.” A cricket follower said, adding, “Even if Assam were able to take the the first innings lead, J&K still would have ran away with the solitary point.”

“Some senior players in the team even asked the team management to declare the innings, however, coach refused.” A team insider revealed. Ranji Trophy: ‘Team management’s blunder’ cost J&K 2 points
