The rescue and search operation to trace the missing local trekker Hilal Ahmad Dar were intensified on Tuesday morning with expert hikers from J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club joining the efforts with locals and administration officials.

“Rescue launched by JKMHC since 4 AM ,teams on Butshree, a starting uphill mountain pass that leads to Gangbal. Trying to establish contact with the missing, ” Said a JKMHC official on Tuesday.

A local trekker, Hilal Ahmad hailing from Bemina who is PHD student in Kashmir University has gone missing while on trekking to Gangbal, his family said on Monday.

As per family sources, the Srinagar native had gone to trekking with his friends to high altitude lake of Gangbal, starting from Naranag.

However, in the midway enroute to lake, owing to fatigue, he had stopped and asked his friends to go ahead while he would wait for them. Upon return, his friends couldn’t find him, sources in family said.

A relative of him also took to Facebook, saying Hilal is missing.

“Missing report, This is to let my all friends know that my cousin Hilal Abdul Basit ID name Hilal Ahmad Dar, had gone to trekking to Naranag along with his four friends yesterday 4am, he was supposed to be back yesterday night, while all his friends are safe, he is still missing, we have tried every way out to find him but we haven’t been successful yet. I request you all to share this post. If any one has any clue about him contact 9906928965,” Nabeel Nisar wrote.

Earlier on Monday evening an official of Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) said although they had no knowledge of this group going for a trek to Gangbal, they have requested the local authorities to look into it.

“We didn’t know him nor had any information of this group going to Gangbal. We came to know about it today, I talked to Tehsildar Kangan, they have dispatched police to look for him, besides locals too are looking for him. His scooty is parked at naranag.” Official said.
